Chapter 198: Chapter 198 Remaining Matters
Watching the taxi carrying Kirsten and her mother drive away, Adrian involuntarily touched the spot on his cheek where he had just been kissed. It felt as if the soft lips of the little girl were still there, as if he could still smell the fragrance of her cheek.
“Damn little fairy,” Adrian cursed silently, but that strange feeling lingered in his heart. It was indeed audacious of her to make such a move out on the street, in full view of everyone.
It wasn’t until the taxi disappeared around the corner that Adrian turned to head back to his car, only to see Charlize standing nearby, propping her chin with one hand and pursing her lips, watching him with an indescribable look in her eyes.
“Let’s go, there’s more to do,” Adrian shrugged nonchalantly. Charlize said nothing, pursed her lips, and then followed him into the car.
Before filming officially began, there was only one thing left to do.
In the somewhat noisy studio where staff members were coming and going, Adrian sat at a small round table, quietly sipping his coffee and waiting for something, while Charlize quietly conversed with a middle-aged woman on the other side of the table. The woman was slightly plump, but one could still see her beauty when she was younger, which was evident from the occasional laughter.
Then, the crisp sound of high heels clicking against the floor approached from afar and finally stopped in front of the round table. Adrian looked up immediately and let out a sound of admiration. The conversation at the table paused, and even the confident mother couldn’t help but reveal a surprised expression at first glimpse.
Her black hair, long and straight, hung from both sides of her face down to her shoulders, her beautiful blue eyes riveting, almost impossible to look away from, and her lips, luscious and tempting as if begging for a kiss. Her fair skin seemed as though it could squeeze out water. Added to this was a very appropriate black pleated dress that reached just above the knees, and about 5-inch peep-toe high heels that accentuated her tall figure, especially those long legs.
Her innocent and pure allure as a girl was not diminished by her outfit but instead blended, blurring the lines between a pure girl and a sexy woman, standing there with a grace all her own.
No wonder she was dubbed “the symbol of innocent girls of the 1990s.” At least from the outside, she truly was stunning. Adrian secretly applauded in his mind. If Kirsten’s allure lay in her bold initiatives like a “little fairy,” Natalie’s was in her ambiguous and elusive nature, then Liv’s allure was in that instinctive charm that radiated from within—of course, at least that’s how it seemed on the surface.
“How about it, Bibi Bill? I wasn’t wrong, was I?” Adrian looked at Liv’s mother, Bibi Bill, with a smile.
“Well, I must admit I am indeed surprised. Your judgment is very sharp,” Bibi said, her eyes fixated on her daughter, “It looks like I can’t refuse. Liv, what do you think?”
Liv looked at Adrian with those deep blue eyes, her gaze not filled with the typical shyness and excitement of a young girl but full of curiosity. After a moment, she softly asked, “Is it just for an MTV?”
“For now, that’s it. However, you are very suitable for the image of a pure girl, Liv, so I suggest you could stay in Los Angeles for a while,” Adrian said, “After all, that’s the heart of the film industry.”
There wasn’t a suitable role right away, but the recording company’s “Super Boy” — a name Adrian directly plagiarized — had gained popularity through a few good singles and was becoming hot after releasing a new album. Hence, they were shooting an MTV for a new song, and he took this opportunity to invite Liv to star in it, as her debut would be in this MTV anyway.
If she went to Los Angeles, everything would be easier. As for the films, with so many memories, if he thought carefully, there would always be one, and he somehow already had an idea.
“Mom, what do you think?” Liv then looked at her mother again.
“I’ve already said it, dear,” Bibi responded, but she quickly realized her daughter wasn’t asking about that. After hesitating for a few seconds, Bibi looked at Adrian again. Clearly, the Miracle Director believed her daughter had potential and wanted to nurture her, but…
“It’s your choice, Liv,” Bibi finally shrugged, leaving the decision up to her daughter.
“Then let’s agree, thank you, Mr. Adrian,” Liv gave Adrian a sweet smile, her eyes finally sparkling with excitement, “I’ve wanted to see Los Angeles for a while now.”
And that settled Liv’s matter. Being new to the scene, like many young actresses, her manager was her mother, and since Bibi was a model herself, she also had some connections in the industry.
However, some tasks required professionals, so Adrian recommended Sandy, who had previously left a good impression on him. Sandy didn’t disappoint him and quickly gained the trust of Liv and her daughter to successfully sign a contract, allowing Adrian to stay well informed about Liv’s every move. Since Sandy was also smart, Adrian was not worried about any uncontrollable incidents happening in Los Angeles while he was busy shooting in New York.
Speaking of which, Adrian was quite lucky with the audition in New York, where he unexpectedly found three girls he wanted; maybe he should really go to church to pray and give thanks. Adrian couldn’t help but feel proud.
After dealing with these matters and delegating the remaining tasks to other responsible parties, he took Charlize to Washington D.C. James Cameron had been shooting “True Lies” on location there for several weeks, and they were almost done.
“The chase scene used a lot of manpower and resources, and it took a great effort to get the cooperation of the police department; it’s a pity that the National Park Service didn’t allow us to shoot outside the Lincoln Monument, otherwise Arnold riding past there would have been quite cool,” Cameron prattled on as soon as Adrian arrived on set.
Although Adrian responded with nods and apparent seriousness, his mind wasn’t really on the discussion; he believed that since he had already handed over the entire movie to Cameron and provided ample support, he only needed to wait for the results. Besides, given Cameron’s temperament on set, even if he did offer suggestions, they might not be adopted.
After complimenting Cameron, and exchanging pleasantries with Arnold, Curtis, and the other actors, he proceeded to seek out his intended target.
Sarah had finished her scenes the day before and was planning to return to Los Angeles, but on a whim, decided to stay and explore Washington D.C., and thus happened to be there when Adrian arrived.
“It must be God’s will,” she said in a light tone after introducing her situation, as if she had come to terms with everything.
“Anyway, I’m glad I could see you one last time,” Adrian sighed, hesitated for a moment, then stretched his hand to stroke her head. Although many reporters were prying around the set looking for news, and Roselan had specifically come to Washington D.C. to look after her daughter, a simple head pat seemed trivial.
However, he soon realized something was off in his words, and abruptly slapped his forehead. “Damn!”
“Listen, Sarah, that’s not what I mean. I mean… I’m glad to see you before you leave,” Adrian clarified with a roll of his eyes and a gesture.
Seeing his somewhat comical demeanor, the always calm Sarah couldn’t help but giggle despite regaining her composure quickly; however, her facial contours had softened a lot.
“Are you in New York shooting a new movie about a hitman?” Sarah asked after composing herself.
“Yes, I just picked the right girls for the roles and there’s some time left before the actual shooting starts,” Adrian nodded.
After a “Oh” from Sarah, who then remained silent, Adrian offered a slight smile. Ever since the casting rumors of “The Professional” had spread, Sarah’s agent had approached him. However, the role of Matilda was undoubtedly Natalie’s, and Adrian couldn’t let anyone else have it.
With that, the agent certainly returned without success. Sarah wouldn’t be upset by this, but disappointment was inevitable; after all, only someone who had spent time close to Adrian would understand where the Miracle Director’s “miracle” lay.
“I’ve reviewed Cameron’s plan; you still have two scenes left to shoot in the studio, then you’re done,” Adrian continued, “You can take a few months off, then follow the schedule to train for a while. Don’t rush; sometimes haste makes waste. Even I reached my goal only after ample preparation.”
Sarah bit her lip, closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and then looked up at Adrian: “I understand.”
Adrian smiled, stroked her head again but sighed internally—this was the difference between Sarah and Kirsten. If only Sarah knew how to use her assets to flirt like Kirsten did, things might be very different now.
Adrian chuckled to himself and subtly shrugged. If Sarah had done that, she wouldn’t be the Sarah that attracted him. However, Kirsten’s allure was indeed quite significant.
Adrian didn’t stay long in Washington D.C.; after spending one night and discussing specifics with Cameron, Arnold, and others, and checking with the company’s responsible parties, he returned to New York to fully immerse himself in the final preparations for “The Professional.” After about ten more days with major actors Jean Reno and Gary Oldman arriving on set, the movie Adrian had planned in his mind for a long time was finally ready to start filming.
